Why we're doing this
We love movement but we’re not such big fans of new plastics and harsh forever chemicals (why would anyone be).
The activewear industry relies on elastane to help your pants stay up. But it’s made from new plastic and often treated with PFAS, bad for you and worse for the planet.
Currently, we have not found a elastane free fabric on the market that provides the comfort, support and sweat wicking you need for your high intensity work outs.
But we can do better than using new plastic! We use recycled fabrics in all our activewear and organic in our outerwear. We are working towards plastic free options that maintain the quality you deserve.
Because no one likes saggy, soggy, sweaty workout gear. Your outfit should be working as hard as you do, and perform like a second skin.
We start with recycled materials but we don’t stop there, we continue to innovate for an entirely plastic free future. It won’t happen overnight, but we will take you along for the ride.
We won’t be stopped, we will continue raising the bar to make activewear that works for you, your body and your planet.
— The Earthletica Team
Our Mission
Eradicate plastic from activewear without compromising performance so you can work hard and sweat cleaner.
---
Our first step with recycled fabrics and cutting edge tech. Introducing The Bronte Jacket; a world's first plant based waterproof membrane and recycled plastic tapeless zipper. This means less plastic and no forever chemicals!
Our Material Approach
Our Material Approach
We’ve developed two signature fabrics both made with 75% recycled materials without adding chemical treatments.
Our outerwear is made from 100% organic cotton.
At the moment, we haven’t found a natural fibre that performs and lasts to the standard needed for high impact activewear, but our innovation arm is working on the next stage of reducing reliance on elastane and plastics.
Read more about our fabric approach.
We released world first garment technology in the Bronte Jacket. World first bio-based (PFAS free) waterproofing and world first recycled airystring zipper (no zipper tape, no extra plastic better zipper performance).
We are working on new tech to create a plastic free elastane, which has the same performance but made from plants. We cannot wait to share it with you.
We start with what is better and we keep going. The goal is activewear that feels and performs like a second skin, but with no plastic elastane.
We start with recycled because it's better for the environment. But we don't stop there.
We work with our innovation partners to continue to uncover new sustainable garment tech, we test it and bring it to you.
How We Do It
How We Do It
Problem
42 million tons of plastic waste from the textile industry. Other activewear is made from virgin plastics.
Solution
We find cutting edge sustainable fabrics then tailor them with precision so they won’t move no matter how much you do.
This means
Every piece of activewear is crafted from at least 75% recycled plastics, that still delivers compression, stretch, and softness.
Our shirts and jackets? Made with 100% organic cotton or 100% recycled nylon.
Problem
There is currently no garment to garment recycling for activewear.
Solution
We keep the end in mind when creating every piece of clothing and partner with companies to recycle.
This means
We’ve partnered with Upparel to recycle Earthletica gear at the end of its life, keeping it out of landfills. We're also focused on finding new circular technologies to push sustainability even further.
Problem
30% of clothes are sent to landfill without even being sold.
Solution
We build our inventory practices to minimise stock waste.
This means
We focus on timeless design and anti-fast fashion practices. We currently have no stock waste. As we grow, our supply chain management will scale, keeping sustainability and transparency at the core.
Here's where we're at
- Our world first Bronte Jacket, is free from PFAS, 100% recycled and uses a tapeless zipper
- Female activewear that’s proudly designed on Australian soil
- Our tights, shorts and crops are made using 75% recycled materials
- Our activewear has no purposefully added chemicals
- Our outerwear (T-shirts, jumpers, trackies) are made from 100% natural materials that are synthetic-free
- A limited range of sizing (6-14) that caters to our budding community
Here's where we're heading
- Continue synthetic free outerwear
- Performance activewear (tights and crops) that are made entirely plastic free. Continue to innovate with plant based elastane to achieve this.
- Let the men in on the action (it’s rude to ignore half the population)
- Increase sizing range to support our growing community
Our Partners
We can't do it alone.
Upparel
Upparel is our recycling partner. We look after what goes into our fabrics, but Upparel takes care of the other end of the cycle. When you send your unwearable Earthletica gear to Upparel they recycle it into all sorts of useful products and you earn a discount on any future purchases.
Modern Meadow
Modern Meadow is our technology partner for the Bronte Jacket, a bio-tech company focussed on sustainability. Their Bio-Alloy™Shield—a bio-based, lightweight, PFAS-free waterproof membrane—was a world first in our Bronte Jacket.
